Simulation and Technology - enhanced Learning Initiative (STeLI), London Deanery, UK
The Simulation and technology-enhanced learning Initiative is a multid project to promote patient safety by building substantial educational capacity and simulation infrastructure across London. Over 40,000 simulation based training activities have taken place across 92 sites in London. The judges were particularly impressed by the simulators of procedures so that clinicians can practice their technical skills safely including foundation year skills and training in an inflatable, portable operating theatre.

“Winning this BMJ Group award would be wonderful recognition of London’s Simulation & Technology-enhanced Learning Initiative (STeLI) achievements. STeLI has had a significant operational impact by putting excellence and patient safety at the heart of clinical training. By harnessing advances in task and team training we have successfully championed human factors and their importance to patient safety. Simulation moves the steep and dangerous part of the learning curve away from patients and gives professionals unique opportunities to rehearse and refine their clinical practice in safe, controlled environments. Successful educational innovation underpins clinical excellence; winning this award would inspire our future endeavours.”
