NHS Nottingham City, NHS Nottinghamshire county and the Nottingham Energy Partnership, UK
The judges were struck by the remarkable achievement of the Nottingham Trusts who have reached 85% recycling rates for their domestic waste and the way in which they have influenced staff behaviour and changed procurement practices. Because of the partnership with Nottingham Energy Partnerships the Trusts have become part of a wider public health initiative in the local community that aims to combat fuel poverty and excess winter deaths and to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in the local community

"This would be fantastic recognition of the many years work and commitment through the partnership between the local NHS and NEP in combating climate change, fuel poverty and reducing NHS environmental impacts locally. We hope this award will encourage more healthcare organisations and partners to engage in best practice carbon management. Using carbon as a metric of not only environmental impacts, but also cost risk through the NHS supply chain; as we enter an era of high global energy prices. Also public health risk, through the future impacts of climate change. NHS carbon reduction will not be ‘lost in transition’!"
