Charter Medical Centre, Hove, England The Charter Medical Centre, in Hove, East Sussex, focused on a "hard to reach" group through its men’s health project. The centre’s success was in persuading men who rarely attend to come to the practice. This model was then introduced to all practices within the Brighton and Hove PCT area.
Lonsdale Medical Centre, London, England Since 1997 practitioners at the Lonsdale Medical Centre have collaborated with colleagues at the Academic Unit of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Imperial College London.
Its ‘therapeutic identification of adolescent depression in primary care’ (TIDY) project has contributed to the development of techniques to screen for emotional distress and risk of depression during routine consultations.
James Wigg Practice (JWP), London, England Following 12 years of preparation and planning, the James Wigg Practice primary care team built stunning new premises, which were shortlisted for the Stirling Prize for Architecture. It has also been highly innovative in tackling social problems in its area, providing independent employment, finance and debt advice to its patients.
The University of Nottingham Health Service, Nottingham, England Sending 1500 Valentine cards to the vice chancellor of ottingham University was one of the publicity ploys adopted by the university’s health practice, students’ union, and students’ welfare body when they began to lobby for a sexual health promotion officer. Together they have developed a treatment service to enhance sexual health across the community.
