Primary Care Team of the Year winner's showcase

This award celebrates how innovative, exciting and dynamic primary care can be. The judges, all of them GPs, were looking for shared participation among the entire practice team within the practice; and for evidence of partnership with outside agencies.

Rainbow Surgery, Cambridgeshire, UK

A partnership between the Rainbow surgery and the Gainsborough Foundation lead to promising results in detoxification of those seeking help with alcohol problems, most of whom receive this within 48 hours. Of one hundred patients seen in 30 months, 68% remained sober at 6 months and 60% at one year. This network also helps patients to rebuild their social lives. Because of its success, the project has now expanded to include other local surgeries.

Through our alcohol work, set up in partnership with Gainsborough we aim to provide a first class service for a ‘difficult to reach’ patient group and we are immensely proud of everyone involved in providing this service and proud of the patients who have engaged with and benefitted from it."
